The conference “Objects of Desire: Sefardic Manuscripts from Hamburg” is organized by the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures and the Institute for Jewish Philosophy and Religion at the University of Hamburg, in cooperation with Dr. Michael Studemund-Halévy (Institute for the History of German Jewry).
Experts from Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, The United States, and Germany will discuss manuscripts written, read and collected by membersof the Spanish and Portuguese Jewish community in Hamburg in the 16th and 17th century from various vantage points – manuscriptological, art-historical, religious and philosophical.
